The Society have been working with local charity Leicestershire Cares for over a decade and have contributed many volunteers and hours to a whole host of projects focused on employability and education.
Last month we received the news that Hinckley & Rugby were nominated for four awards* at their annual ceremony for 2023, so we went along to their inspiring event at Winstanley House in Leicester to find out how we’d fared.
We were named as winners for ‘Outstanding Contribution to Work with SEND Young People’ and our Branch and Savings Operations Manager, Tracey Ingram, was handed the ‘Evan Crosskey Education Volunteer Of The Year’ award.
Tracey said:
“It was such a lovely surprise to win this very special award. I thoroughly enjoy volunteering my time to help young people and there have been some great sessions organised by Leicestershire Cares that I could contribute to this year. I’ve genuinely had fun and the students have been engaged and inspiring, I’ll be back for more!”
This award is very close to the hearts of many at the Society, as it’s been named to commemorate our colleague Evan who sadly died late last year. Evan had worked alongside the charity inspiring young people for many years and received this award back in 2021.
Our CEO, Colin Fyfe, said:
“We have a strong desire and drive to share our expertise and time with those in our local communities, so to have the work we do recognised in this way is fantastic and a real thank you to all our volunteers.
We are very touched by having the Education Volunteer Of The Year award named after our dearly missed colleague Evan, who too was a great example of how we can individually make a positive impact. Many congratulations to Tracey and all those who have given their time to work with our good friends at Leicestershire Cares.”
